Delete your account and data

Last updated August 25, 2026

You can ask Local Loop to delete your account and the data attached to it at any time, whether or not you still have the app installed. Here is how to ask, exactly what gets deleted, what we have to keep and why, and how long it takes.

Request deletion by email

Send a message to support@localloopshop.com with the subject Delete my Local Loop account — from the email address on your account, if you still have access to it. Include:

Email your deletion request

No app install and no sign-in is required to submit a request.

How to request deletion

There are two routes, and both reach the same place.

From this page

Email support@localloopshop.com using the form above. This is the route to use if you have already uninstalled the app, lost access to your device, or cannot sign in.

From inside the app

Local Loop does not have a self-serve delete button in the app that erases your account on the spot. If you are using the app, send the same email to support@localloopshop.com from your phone; it reaches the same inbox and is handled the same way. Every request is reviewed and carried out by a person, which is why the timelines below are measured in days rather than seconds.

Verifying it is you

Before we delete anything we confirm that you control the account, usually by checking that the request came from the account’s email address. If it did not, we will ask you for something else that proves control. We do this so nobody else can delete your account, and we will not ask you for a government ID just to verify a deletion request.

What gets deleted

When we complete a full account deletion, the following are removed from our systems:

  • Your profile: display name, profile photo, neighborhood, home ZIP code, and the onboarding preferences saved on your account.
  • Your account record, and your sign-in itself — we run our own identity server, so deleting the account deletes the login with it.
  • Your listings, including their photos, descriptions, prices, and delivery settings. They stop appearing in the marketplace immediately.
  • Your conversations and every message you sent in them.
  • Your offers and counter-offers.
  • The reviews you wrote and the reviews written about you, along with your public star rating.
  • Every push notification token registered to your devices, which stops all notifications immediately.
  • Your rental listings and their availability, where rentals are enabled.
  • Your identity verification status, and the reference we hold to the verification session Stripe ran.

Deletion is permanent. We cannot restore an account, its listings, or its message history once the request is carried out, and your reviews and rating history do not come back if you sign up again later.

One thing to settle first: finish or cancel anything in flight before you ask us to delete. If you have an open order, a payment still held in escrow, a live auction, or an active rental, we will ask you to complete or cancel it first, so that neither you nor the person on the other side of the transaction is left stranded.

What we keep, and why

A full erasure is not always possible, and we would rather tell you exactly where the edges are than promise something we cannot do. After your account is deleted we retain the following.

Records of completed purchases and sales — the item, the amount, the date, the counterparty, the payment reference, and any delivery address attached to the order.
We are required to keep transaction records for tax and accounting purposes, and to resolve chargebacks, refunds, and disputes that can be raised after a sale closes. These records stay linked to the transaction rather than to a live account.
Records held by Stripe: your payments, your payouts, and, for sellers, the identity and banking information Stripe collected to pay you.
Stripe is a regulated payment processor with its own legal record-keeping obligations, and it is the controller of that data. Deleting your Local Loop account does not delete Stripe’s records. To ask Stripe about the data it holds on you, contact Stripe directly.
A minimal record that a specific account was deleted, and any record of a suspension or a policy violation.
This stops a banned account from being recreated to evade a suspension, and lets us show we handled your deletion request.
Backups and error logs that already contain your data at the time of your request.
Backups roll off on a fixed schedule and error reports expire on our monitoring provider’s retention schedule. We do not restore deleted accounts from backups.

Where a record has to survive because it is part of a completed transaction, we keep the transaction and strip your personal details from it, so what remains is a financial record rather than a profile of you. A retained record is used only for the purpose it was kept for. It is never used to market to you, and it is never used to rebuild a profile of you.

One consequence worth naming: because a message thread has two people in it, deleting your account removes your side of the conversation, but a neighbor may still have their own copy of what you sent them, on their device or in a screenshot. We cannot reach into another person’s records.

How long it takes

We acknowledge every deletion request within 5 business days, and we complete verified requests within 30 days of receiving them. Most are done sooner. If something delays yours — an open transaction, or a verification step we could not complete — we will tell you what is holding it up rather than leaving you waiting.

Your push notifications stop as soon as the deletion is carried out. Backups containing your data age out on their normal rotation after that.

If you want less than a full deletion

You do not have to delete everything. Tell us in your email if you want something narrower, and we will do that instead:

  • Take down your listings but keep your account and purchase history.
  • Remove your profile photo, your neighborhood, or your home ZIP code.
  • Delete the device tokens we hold for you so notifications stop, without touching anything else.
  • Get a copy of the data we hold about you before you decide.

You can also edit your display name, photo, neighborhood, and home ZIP code yourself at any time in the app or on the website.

Accounts you may also want to close

Your sign-in is not one of these: we run our own identity server, so deleting your account deletes the login too — you do not have to ask, and there is no separate account left behind. If you signed in with Apple or Google, that removes our side of the connection; your Apple or Google account is unaffected and is yours to manage.

One provider does hold data under its own terms, and closing your Local Loop account does not close it.

  • Stripe holds your payment records and, for sellers, your payout and identity information. Contact Stripe directly about the data it holds.

Questions

Not sure whether to delete, or want to know what we hold on you first? Email support@localloopshop.com and ask. A person will answer. For the full picture of what we collect and why, read our Privacy Policy.
